What overseas buyers check before they call you
Buyers abroad decide quietly, long before the first message. Here are the three things they look at, and how to make each one work for you.
If you sell to buyers in another country, there is a stage of the sale you never see. Before anyone replies to your email, they have already looked you up. They are asking one question: is this a supplier I can trust with an order?
1. Your company profile
This is usually the first thing a buyer opens. They want to know who you are, how long you have been doing this, what you make, and whether you look like a real, steady business. A profile that is clear, current and well organised answers all of that in a minute. A profile with tiny text and mixed photos makes them wonder.
2. Your catalog
A catalog is not only a list of products. It tells a buyer how you work. When every product has the same kind of photo, the same layout and the same few facts, it looks like a company that does things in order. When every page looks different, it looks like a company that is still figuring things out.
Good catalogs make comparison easy. Put the details a buyer checks first, such as size, material and finish, in the same place on every page.
3. Your website
For most buyers, the website is the quickest check. It does not need to be large. It needs to load quickly, work on a phone, say clearly what you make and for whom, and show a way to contact you. An old site that looks unfinished can undo the good work of a strong catalog.
What to do first
You do not need to rebuild everything. Pick the piece a buyer is most likely to see first, usually the profile or the catalog, and make that one right. Then make the other two match it. When the three feel like one company, buyers stop doubting and start asking about price and delivery, which is the conversation you wanted.
